Having a pet around the house is an advantage in many ways. They can provide security in one way and companionship in many situations in other ways. Household pets in the UK mostly fall among the following categories; Dogs, Cats, Rabbits, Indoor Birds, Guinea Pigs, Hamsters, Tortoises and Turtles, Lizards, Domestic Fowl, Snakes, Horses and Ponies, Rats and Ferrets – in order of ownership popularity in UK homes. People need to appreciate the information about pets and their demands while in their home so as to be able to understand how to live with them. You need to understand information about household pets mainly for the following reasons/considerations.
Behavioural Adaptation – before you bring a pet into your home, you must understand how the pet behaves around people, both children, and adults. Some pets are friendlier than others while others are pretty much aggressive. The way a cat will respond to certain gestures is different from the way a dog will respond to the same stimuli. You will need to understand these otherwise you may treat a cat the same way as a dog and that might not end well.
Feeding Preparation – every species has some kind of “staple food”. If you do not clearly understand what a pet is normally fed on, you may not be effective in providing the necessary diet for the survival and growth of the pet. Dogs normally can eat almost any food that people eat; cats prefer a lot of “milky” foods. Guinea pigs and rabbits have different preferences in terms of diet; therefore, you must be familiar with pets’ dietary behaviours and adaptations in order to satisfy them in terms of feeding.
Habitat Preparation – every pet demands to be housed in specific style and conditions. Some pets need to be exposed to sunlight most of the day hours; others demand the constant presence of water while others only need the presence of people. In some circumstances pets find themselves crawling onto the bed of their owners and spending the night by their side while for other pets it just can’t work like that. The latter need to have special habitats either inside or outside the main living house. To be able to prepare and erect a good shelter or house for your pet, you need to understand what the pet needs. For instance, you can’t house a tortoise in the same way that they house a horse.
Medical Care and Health Practice – pets need medical attention just like children do that you are bringing up. Pet owners will need to understand clearly how often a pet needs a medical check-up, what diets boost their immune system, what substances they shouldn’t ingest, what chemicals affect them and what factors can affect the mental health of the pet. This will normally help the owner who is also the caretaker of the pet to take good care of the pet while they are living with them.
As you grow the habit of rearing and owning pets, some issues may merge with time, like the rights of the pets, pet control regulations, the safety of children, safety of the pet, the health of the pet, legality of the pet owners and many more. It is, therefore, necessary that a pet owner keeps an open mind and a lookout for emerging and trending issues to avoid being caught off guard by waves of events.
